InternshipThis week we had memorial day this week so the office was closed and I was at my grandparents house and ate some pretty good food. On Tuesday Richard showed me how to use a system that showed a big list of agents and what they have produced. After he showed me how to use it properly he then showed me how to use a website that he wanted me to update. While I was doing this the system closed and I had no idea which one it was and what was even worse was Richard was in an important meeting that he was going to be in for a while. I told Melody what happened and she texted Richard just in case he went and took a quick bathroom break or something. He never responded and so I went over to see if Jennifer had anything for me to do. During the period I was with Jennifer she had me processes the check and she was right next to me just in case I had any questions or needed any help. Next I went to Melody and she taught me how to processes checks and add it to the system she uses that logs everything down to make sure nothing is missing. After that I covered the front desk from 1- 2 PM Melody then had me take a test to see what I am good at. Wednesday has come now and I covered the front desk at 11 AM because Jennifer had to go to a meeting I came back at the usual 1 PM to cover the front desk while she ate lunch. At around 2:30 Jennifer showed me what a website needs to meet the office requirements we then went through a list of real estate agents finding their websites and seeing if they followed what was needed and if not we highlighted their name. On Thursday I worked with SFG and went through organizing the back room with Veronica. When I finished with SFG I helped bring up some signs and then I covered the front desk. After covering the front desk Jennifer came back and taught me everything I would ever need to know if I would work as the DFI(Director of First Impressions). For my internship project I wanted to do something that would create conversation between everyone and about everyone in a good way. This Project I first called it a "selfie wall" but that is a different thing so this is the "wall of selfies" and if you went on a trip to a national park and took a photo you like you put it up. Max improved it by saying if someone wants to share something written that can be nice too if its an appreciation or something that has helped them. This wall will eventually get more large as the months go on and hopefully it will make people feel more close by letting people know more about each other in their work space.

The InterviewDuring the first week I was there Mr. Max and I had a meeting to talk about what I will be doing at the office during this internship opportunity. I can not remember how this came up but Max said if I research about three people that are successful later on we will talk about what similar things they all have in common. Three weeks into the internship we have a meeting were we would talk about the three people. Before we talked about those three successful people I first finish the interview that was required. I am happy that we were told to do this because I got to hear what he did and I can/ did learn from him talking about his experiences. The other thing I am glad that we were told to do was record it because if I would of not been told to record the interview with your mentor I would have never done it because I thought it was pointless I was thinking while starting it "why do I have to record this?" until I got home, I realized it is so I can listen to it as many times as I want to. After asking him questions for the interview this is when we talked about the three successful people and what they had in common with each other. The things I noticed is no matter what they never gave up even through struggles and rejections, Second thing is when they were a child they could not get what they wanted because of their family financial struggle. Because they wanted so bad nothing could stop them even if the challenge was not having enough money. On the first week I was still starting to know the people around me and I did not really feel comfortable around them to start a conversation with them. I did not really do much in the sense of socializing last week and I felt I should give it a better try. So this week I did talk more, in a good way not like over talking or anything. From my experience with talking to other people in this Keller Williams office during this week I learned people are really friendly. If you see someone walking in the hall they will normally say, "Good morning", or "Good afternoon", maybe at the end of the day at around 4pm "are you leaving?" followed with an "Ok have a good day then, see you tomorrow". You can also hear the phone at the front desk ring where the director of first impressions sits at and answer the phone call with "It's a great day at Keller Williams" which is way better than hearing the usual "This is (insert company name) how can I help you" it makes you have a "great day". It is really nice to work in an office that everyone has the desire to be in, the happiness is contagious, It makes me happy to talk about it. Other than talking to people that are around me I also learned a lot and improved the skills I gained from the week before. On Monday the 14th when I came in to work I put in an entire box of around 80 to 90 agents who have left into a system, and I worked at the front desk for about an hour. It was also our brokers birthday that day too and we all call him Mo for short and he is pretty cool person he's also in a band where I heard he sings and plays the guitar(They are pretty famous in Mexico) the band is called Delux. On the next day Tuesday the 15th I got about another 80 past agents and put them into the system. After this I worked on the front desk and while at the front desk a lot of people called and came this day but it did not compare to Thursday. On Thursday I helped Jennifer update a board near the office lounge that has information of new listings. When I was done helping Jennifer I then continued where I left off the day before with helping Melody, I then ate lunch and now comes the time of when I sit at the front but, today was like no other. I got to sit at the front desk from 1 PM until around 3:30 PM (instead of the usual 1 - 2 PM) and I got to do the usual things like, answering the phone, transferring calls, showing clients were to go, and letting agents know they're here. After this week I can not wait for next week but I am kind of sad because that means I am more than half way done with this internship program and I am really enjoying my time here.
The first day at Keller Williams Realty was pretty nice because the first thing I did was talk to my mentor. A little after the meeting were we went over what will happen I went to their conference room and I viewed three interviews for a position they had and I took notes on what I thought they did good on, and on time I thought they could of improve on. This is really good because it was three real world interviews where I didn't have to stress about anything because I was not the one being interviewed which allowed me to focus better and write great notes for future references before I go into an interview. On day two Mr. Max let me work with Tracy, while I worked with Tracy I learned good office skills that could help me get a future job. I also liked organizing because it did not need a lot of talking unless I had a question and I did have a few questions. This was a good task to start with for my second day because I did not have to talk in front of a lot of people, only to Tracy. I usually get really nervous while talking to others I don't know and it is even worse if there is more people around so these small victories (asking questions) with Tracy. I gained the courage to ask the friendly people at the front desk if they needed help with anything. During the time I was working with them I learned that their names are, Mark, and Jennifer. Jennifer taught me how to print, scan, copy, refill the papers, and have the mail be delivered. On Wednesday I worked with mark to set up a room where the office has weekly meetings Richard joined us too. A little after we set up the room I was able to sit in on the meeting and see how one happens. While in the meeting I saw a vendor selling their product and answer any questions agents had about it too. Next I believe Richard talked about how the company is doing showing us statistics that Keller Williams is far above the average united states real estate companies and after showing the charts everyone clapped and was happy. Then Joe went up with Chanel to talk about red day an event that happens every year to to help improve our community. When my first meeting was over I watched Mr. Max be filmed for his campaign and towards the end of it I got out of my comfort zone and said an idea I thought of. Thursday was RED Day so we met up at a church and broke up into three groups where they had different tasks the one I joined was the one that painted, we painted a brick wall to hide the graffiti under it and while we did that we got visited by a cute dog who observed what we were doing for a long time, we also painted a staircase a nice brown that reminded me of chocolate. The other groups cleaned the upstairs of the church and another group did gardening. At the end of RED Day we ate tacos and everyone talked and had fun. Before everyone left we made 2 lines facing each other and one by one or with a partner walked down doing a special dance move. On Friday I organized files, and worked behind the front desk with mark for about an hour answering phone calls and transferring them to the person they were looking for.
PROMPT - Internship Blog Post #1 An interest I have right now is to get a BS in aeronautical engineering, after that I’d like to join the Marines as and officer. The top 5 Jobs I would like to have in the Marine Corps from first being the one I want the most and last being the one I want least are, Pilot(AV8b, F/A18a/c, AH1z, CH53), EOD officer, Infantry officer, tank crewman, and crew chief. Now if I do become a Marine and fly the CH53, there is a possibility I would help in disaster relief because the CH53 is a transport helicopters we could be transporting a lot of food/ medical supplies, and Marines to places vehicles can not get to. If I were to become an AV8b, fa18a/c pilot I would be able to drop bombs or do some strafing runs on terrorists. The AH1Z is an attack helicopter and they are pretty cool. I could be the pilot for it or I can be possibly in the front seat controlling the weapons. I’m not to sure which is more fun but I am sure I would love both jobs. If I became EOD officer I would help with dismantling stuff that explode and then safely get rid of them and this helps every person because there legs wont be missing. As an infantry officer I would help in making battle plans, help my 03 buddy's train for any mission, lead them into battle, and pretty much supervise them. Tank crewman seems ok I know I would enjoy it because I might get some tank on tank action if we go to war with North Korea, Russia, or China but as of right now in the desert we are not doing anything that interests me(still better than 0111). The last MOS(job) is Helicopter Crew Chief I would be in charge of it’s handling, I will be the pilots second set of eyes, and who doesn’t want to be in something that can fly? I am not too sure what those threats would be in the future when I sign up it could be North Koreans maybe Russians or the same ones we have been fighting in the desert. How this is contributing to my family and the community is by letting America stay free and what American doesn’t want a free America? What I need to work on to achieve this life goal is practice for ASVAB, PFT/ my weight. Right now I do not know how I feel heading into my internship mainly because I don’t have on We made stencil art at first I thought it would be really easy and just a few cuts here and there. After a really long time of slicing out my picture I realised it takes a long time if you want it to come out looking good. When I was done cutting out myself I spray painted it. Because the picture of me I printed out was to small so I had to make another one. When I was home I made my new one and this one fit the page perfectly. This week we also worked a lot with our production groups while working with brandon a lot he said “cut the maga get the zine” and didn’t think anything of it but after some time I realised that zines is the end of magazines. I found this really funny and then I hear it playing in someones laptop and I see they’re editing a video with him saying that at the end. I like editing videos I don’t do it to often because my computer is not the best because my computer freezes a lot for super long. It took me over a week to make this video when it only should of been a day at most maybe two days. Definitely over the break I will do some super hype tastick video. I know holding a long stick with a little furry thing on the end might not sound like a cool job description but it is great! While working with brandon he let me do that I liked it a lot because you are doing something important but it is not strenuous. During this week of school we were preparing for the SAT in math class that was coming up. On tuesday Mr. B gave us a pep talk about the SAT and throughout the week he taught us many different techniques on what we should do on the test. I did not take the test but I do believe these techniques he taught us will help me on the one I did take. On thursday people walked out to help fight to give equality for women. We had the option to stay inside so I stayed inside. I did not stay inside because I hate women I stayed inside because I want true equality. This might sound weird but you’re not or I wont give a chocolate bar to one of my child and not the other. I understand women go through many problems but I also know men also go through a lot of problems too. This walk out shows how our society does not like men equally. Men are last for everything and we get the worst jobs because we have to. Men make up more than 90% of work related deaths but the workforce is nearly made up of 50% women and we don’t see anything huge for those men. The draft is a problem for me and many people because to get a college loan my brother had to sign up for the draft. If men don’t sign up for the selective service between 18 and 25 who are a U.S. citizens we can go to prison for 5 years, get a nice fine of over $200000. Women don't have to do this where is the “#equality” for this? Or is it for things that only benefit them? Most homeless people are male but shelters have rules where women and children are first I am fine with kids going in first kids is the future but with the women first this goes with me saying guys are last. why can’t it just be first come first server? If there was not a women's walk out and a mens walk out I would be inside arguing for the females, I just want true equality. This week we went to a library that was that was in a college that is near MCAS Miramar. I like that from the library you could see the aircraft even better I saw a C-130, f-18 and one coast guard helicopter. I don’t think I would get a lot of work done there in the library but in the laboratory I probably would be able to. In this laboratory we got to see many things the first thing we did we got separated into three groups. My group saw how mice brains were sliced. How they sliced the mice brains is by freezing them after they froze them like ice they would be able to put this glue on a circular disk thing and would then put the brain on it. After a few seconds of the brain on there it would be stuck and they would attach the disk then they would be able to slice the brain. When we were done with this part of the tour we went with a different person and she showed us a few different place my favorite section on the second part of the tour was right before we got into the dark room because nick wanted to go in first so he did but saw that is was creepy looking so he didn’t go all the way in. I said I will go so I went into the door (it would keep 100% light out) thinking on the other side will be a room that is so dark I can’t see anything and I start to think do I really want to do this? After waiting what seemed to take really long I was able to see the dark room and I was disappointed I really was hoping for the room to be dark and scary especially with nick being to scared to go in but I walk in and wait for the rest of the group to get in. After the rest of the group gets in our tour guide darkens the room even more the glow of the light was a yellowish glow and it looked really cool. Our third tour lady or our last tour lady showed us how they tested their with electricity. I did not get really what was happening but I was able to put some weird liquid into some jello and that was pretty cool. Before this trip I wanted to go to college to get a bs in aeronautical engineering so I can be an officer so my thoughts on going to college after going on this trip have not really changed I still want to go. I don’t really want to go to any of those schools but if I had to the school in nature was nice because of all the land I could camp in if I wanted to and possibly make another fun group there. A college trip moment I will remember is there was a college that had a school to learn how to fly I think SJSU and that is something I will remember for a long time. I never thought a school would do that because if the plane crashes I’m sure they have a chance of being taken to court even though the college would most likely win it would probably make some possible students not even attend it. I wouldn’t care if a flight school had accidents because accidents happen but if there is more than 2 in 5 years I would not want to go there maybe 3 if I am in a carefree mood in. A funny memory I will remember for a long time is before I left on the trip my parents said “don’t sit in the back where the bathroom is at it’s going to get stinky” and I agreed with them because I have been on trips where they do get used. I get on the bus and start looking for Jr to sit next to because we had planned from the start to sit together and I could not find him and I couldn’t find any seats in the front. After finding my seat all the way at the back I heard Ms. Meghan ask “are those your parents?” I turn to my left and see my parents waving goodbye then my mom teased me because I was next to the bathroom but luckily no one had to use it and I got to sleep really comfortably on the way up because no one was next to me. The schools I liked are UCSC because it’s around nature and I could probably make a milsim club there and we just play airsoft in the nature if not I can just camp and camping is still cool, and Cal Poly I like them because they have an aerospace engineering place and that is a degree I like I don’t like the name but what they teach in it is really cool so this is a school I wouldn’t mind going to. SJSU is a school that sounded cool because of the flight school but I don't plan on getting my licence during college I want to have it before or after and their Aerospace program does not seem safe. The last school is UC Berkeley is a college this school I wont apply to because it has had a good amount of riots more than most schools do and I don’t want to be in a community that is violent. While learning about Neuroscience we now how love kind of works and why us kids are weird. Kids act different from adults mainly because children's brains are still developing. How brains develop is from the back to front. The first is being able to see things and that’s part of the occipital lobe, then the parietal lobe is incharge of movement and being aware of the location and orientation, the temporal lobe is memory and speech, last is frontal lobe this is thinking things out or reasoning stuff. This means us kids can be really impulsive in certain things. The one thing that I noticed with me is I’m an impulsive online shopper and I find it weird because I will feel like I’m spending a lot of money handing over a 1 and 5 dollar bill to eat with my friends but when I see something online and it’s cool I don’t mind spending $100+ once I wanted to buy a green jacket thing for a long time but my mom convinced me to wait and I am happy I listened because I don’t need it because it hardly rains here. Luckily my mom knows it’s my weakness and helps me. Not to long ago we got to choose social topics my social topic I chose was masculinity and how it can affects the guy. The part of masculinity I chose was violence and depression I chose it because it is sad and it can be helped with simple solutions. Not talking about violence/ reporting violence is a problem that forms when we are young, parents tell their little kids if they’re getting made fun of to fight the kid and if we cry to suck it up and my old friend was told a lot men don’t cry by his father. Talking about domestic abuse reports show it’s almost even in both genders but the places for help guys can go to are way less. The first step to help is to acknowledge that there is a problem with many men experiencing domestic violence and depression. The next thing to do is make it known to the public and to educate boys and men that it’s ok to admit to what they’re going through and seek help. This is some of the things I have wanted but never got |
