This week 1/22 - 26/2018 we worked on our social topic we chose. My social topic I chose was on problems males tend to have. This included violence(regular and Domestic), and depression. I chose it under masculinity because I feel like a lot of the problem starts with trying to be the a man. When I was younger I remember being told by my dad “I am ok if you get into a fight as long as they hit first” that puts in your head it’s ok to fight, also if you get into a fight you better not lose. If we grow up thinking fighting is wrong we would not do it as much kind of like we don’t normally chew with our mouth open, burp, or fart while eating at the dinner table. In 6th grade I did a report on the Spartans and it was actually polite to fart while eating. Going onto the depression part I am not saying females don’t have depression I just thought this is one problem we can fix easily. I am sure you have heard “man up”, “men don’t cry”, or similar words to that. Some people actually feel that it’s not manly to show your emotions and if you bottle up your emotions eventually you wont be able to handle it. How to fix this is to talk about it but how would we get them to talk about it they same way people got them to not talk about feelings but in reverse we tell them it’s ok to talk about feeling. I am sure if this gets chosen it can be the most helpful and successful topic.
Other than the social topic we learned about the contemporary art. I like contemporary art mainly because it’s weird or not average art. I am not the average bear this is why I like songs that involve people are just screaming their words. I like it because it’s hard to do and also it talks about emotions but not everyone gets it. Kind of like regular contemporary art where you need to read a plack to see what the artist ment with their with their work. The song I like right now is “A Day To Remember - Mr. Highway's Thinking About The End” because of a meme I saw it in, The song I will say is my favorite to anyone who asks is “Of mice and men - pain” because the name seems really sad and emo.

If I had to summarize this week with one word or noise it would have to be with woah. I say it would have to be woah because we have learned a lot this week and also done a lot. It first started with a packet that was filled with all the knowledge you will ever need to know about the brain while in high school. It went into a good amount of detail of each part of the brain it was not to much but also not to little. I know I said that was first but I lied kind of because the first thing we actually did was guess who made the zine that was chosen. How we played this game is there would be a zine chosen and we would have to find details about it and make a decision on who made it. This was fun because you would think it was someone from looking at it and in the end you could be completely wrong and be thinking “woah!?! I would of never guessed”. The thing I feel was the main part of the week was choosing a social topic we wanted to advocate for. On thursday we went to a museum and made a zine for our topic. My topic I chose was problems guys have like Domestic abuse, other violence, and depression(I’m not saying females don’t have it). Most of this can be fixed by speaking up about what’s happening but sadly we are told to suck it up because it’s not manly. I enjoy the zine I made because I ripped out the pages. I did not rip them out because it looked cool but it’s because eventually these feelings will come out. It is hard to see unless you look hard enough but I wrote one big “NO” and right next to it I had “WHERE” and “WERE” stacked and the where means you don’t feel like you’re going any place and you were really never going any place. I chose to make it hard to see because sometimes you can’t tell if someone is going through depression unless you look hard enough because they’re trying to hide their emotions. |
