The Power Within Project
|
The Power Within Project is a reading series that was performed in early December of 2017. We the students had to write a true story about where our power comes from.

A girl in my class described her first draft as a brain dump and that was how my first draft was. I wrote about how I was bullied in 6th grade for a small bit in the start. After that I went to write about being bullied in 8th grade by two boys in an after school club. After I got that critique I got rid of the story about 6th grade and improved on what I had left. We all continue to our work critiqued by people until we felt it was good enough to perform. I had about 3 drafts and after the "official draft" I made one more because I felt I needed to refine it even more. In the start of this project I did not like making drafts because I saw it to as an extra step that was not needed. Now being able to look at my first and last is really cool because I can see how they have evolved slowly into something more enjoyable to read and listen to.
We had three mandatory critiques. we sat on a chair next to a table and so did usually 3 other people. Someone would start reading it out loud and then when done the people sitting on the chairs around the table would give you advice on how they think it should be improved and would also share (if they're nice) )what parts they liked. For me I hated my story in the start so I did not like it getting critiqued because that meant people would hear how bad my it was. On the third critique session my group ran out of time so I never got assistance from them. I found that experience to be to useful for me because it made it more easy to share out. After that Ms. Nuvia helped make it sound super great! All after that the only thing left to do was to script it.

What do all of the different cues, bolding, italics, and underlining signify? There are different Cues that people used like making a sentence bold, italicized, or underlined, and even a combination of all in one. I can promise you they did not do that to be fancy(or maybe they did I never asked them). They actually can have meaning behind them if it's bold they might want to say it mad or just more loud. it can have what ever meaning you wan't it to be.

Scripting When I scripted my speech I read a paragraph and thought about what would sound good. If I decided it was at the best quality without a simple break/pause I would move on to the next Paragraph and repeat this process. When I was done with that I would see what extra thing I could add to make my story more epic sounding then I would reread it fully again and again out loud to myself so I can read it in front of many people and not sound like a robot.
